Summary of Document

The purpose of this document is to provide hands-on help for users while submitting initiatives into DI. For your convenience and referencing purposes, the glossary is divided into 5 categories that follow the submission process for the DI application:

Users are welcomed to use “Ctrl + F” to search key words in this document for clarification. Within each fields, anchors are also provided of the appropriate field that has the corresponding definition. Initiative Types Glossary

Name  Definition
Assessment (Data Analysis, Assessment, and Evaluation) Reports, analyses, data visualizations, and key performance indicators, that enable the evaluation of the success of diversity-related institutional efforts at UW-Madison.
Event A social, educational, or community occasion or activity that can be a one-time or reoccurring in occurrence (i.e., Diversity Forum, Pow-wow, Native November, Black History month, fundraising).
Program An organized system with staffing, a budget, and a plan of academic or non-academic activities that are done in order to achieve a specific result (i.e., diversity) for students, faculty, and staff.
Research “[A] systematic investigation, including research development, testing and evaluation, designed to develop or contribute to generalizable knowledge.”
Support Services  Services that are designed to help our students, faculty, and staff become successful and empower them to reach their educational and professional goals.

Background Information Glossary

Name  Definition
Title Name used to identify the initiative.
Acronym The initials that represent the name, organization, or the like, that identifies the initiative (e.g., DI, DDEEA, UHS).
Type Category that best characterizes your initiative.
Description  Detailed description of the initiative, purpose of initiative and brief overview of the initiative (not to exceed1 page with 12 point fonts in Word).
Division (Department)-Unit UW-Madison division, department, school, or college responsible for initiative.
This initiative is on behalf a registered student organization (RSO) Indicate whether the initiative was created or maintained by a registered student organizations (RSO) which are groups or associations that are operated by students at UW-Madison who are registered with Center for Leadership and Involvement.
Founding Date Date the initiative was established (i.e., starting point).
Mission Statement A formal summary of the aims and values of the initiative or a live link, generally a paragraph or a few sentences.
Vision Statement A formal aspirational description of what your initiative would like to achieve or accomplish in the mid-term or long-term future, or provide a live link.
Website URL URL for official website associated with the initiative.
Tags Labels that help to sort similar initiatives into groups and helps users to find related initiatives in their search.

Logistics Glossary

 Name  Definition
Logistics Frequency Information on the initiative occurrences.
Frequency The number of times the initiative occurred, for example, one-time event, weekly event, annual event.
Start Date The calendar date on which the initiative began.
End Date The calendar date on which the initiative ended.
Logistics Participants Information on participants on the events associating with initiatives.
Participant Count Estimated number of people who participated in the initiative
Participants Charged Whether participants had to pay a fee to participate in the event.
Open to Non-Targeted Populations Whether the initiative is open to those that were not a part of the targeted audience, that is, if the initiative is member-exclusive only.
Target Population The intended audience the initiative wants to approach/serve.
Demographics Characteristics of target population.
Ability Indication of the ability statuses the initiative was targeting.
Ethnicity Indication of the ethnicities statuses the initiative was targeting.
Gender Indication of the gender(s) the initiative was targeting.
Orientation Indication of the orientations the initiative was targeting.
Race Indication of the race(s) the initiative was targeting.
 Sex Indication of the sex(s) the initiative was targeting.

Contacts Glossary

Name  Definition
 Contact People UW-Madison individual or departmental contact(s) for this initiative, like program coordinator, event director.
 Comment Additional explanation of the above individual, include department, organization or possible links for this person.
 Sponsors (People) Individual or departmental contact for initiative sponsors.
Sponsors (Organization) Department or agencies that sponsored this initiative event. You can search the name of the organization in the dialog box below.
 Affiliated Units Department, school, college, organization or agencies that are affiliated with this initiative. You can search the name of the organization in the dialog box below.

General Information Glossary

Name  Definition
 Goals  Description of the purpose or intent of the initiative. The status of the goal could be ongoing, achieved, or not achieved.
 Measures of Success  Type of benchmark to access if the initiative has achieved the goal. If could be qualitative, quantitative or mixed. Each measure should have a title describing the metric, and a specific measure method. The notes section allows further explanations of the measurement.

Funding Glossary

 Name  Definition
Grant Funding System The Grant Funding System (GFS) in the Office of the Vice Provost and Chief Diversity Officer (OVPCDO) and the Division of Diversity, Equity and Educational Achievement (DDEEA) provides small grant allocations to support innovative projects. Select whether or not this initiative is funded by GFS.
Annual Budget The amount of money earmarked for the initiative annually.
UDDS Unit, Division, Department, Sub department)/Department ID is the sequence of numbers (6 digits) that identifies a specific campus department, program or entity.
Fund Three-digit code that identifies types of funding: FUND/DEPT/PROJECT/PROGRAM etc.
Program Code Three-digit code that identifies types of program: FUND/DEPT/PROJECT/PROGRAM etc.
Fiscal Year The fiscal year that money has been spent on the initiative.
Amount The amount of money that has been spent on the initiative this fiscal year
